AZTEC TENTS CELEBRATES 40 SUCCESSFUL YEARS IN THE TENTING AND CANOPY INDUSTRY
Southern California Tent Industry Pioneer Commemorates Anniversary with Year-Long Celebration
A BRIEF HISTORY OF AZTEC TENTS
Torrance, CA – Aztec Tents, one of the nation’s most renowned manufacturers of tents, canopies and semi permanent fabric structures, is celebrating 40 successful years in the tent and event industry. The company has launched a year- long campaign, which will celebrate this milestone. Originally founded in 1966 as Aztec Tents & Events, the company specializes in providing quality structures for some of the most prestigious events across a variety of industries.
Throughout its 40 years, Aztec Tents has gained national notoriety for excellence in producing large- and small-scale tenting structures. Aztec primarily produces its tent and fabric structure products for event rental companies around the world, which, in turn, rent these products to end users, event planners and other organizations. Aztec Tents’ products have served events including NASCAR, Indy Racing League, the PGA Tour, the LPGA Tour, the NFL and thousands of fairs, festivals and other one-of-a-kind events.
“Our goal is to consistently provide our customers with reliable and easy-to-manage structures,” said Alex Kouzmanoff, Aztec Tents’ National Sales Manager. “For the last 40 years, we’ve been successful in reaching that goal, and we believe we’re poised to deliver quality product and stellar service for decades to come.”
Aztec Tents helped to revolutionize the tent and canopy industry in the early 1980s with the introduction of its expandable frame tent, which was adjustable lengthwise, unlike traditional tents at the time with fixed dimensions. In the late 1990s, Aztec Tents introduced its signature Legend Series tent, another groundbreaking industry innovation.
The Legend Series tents were not just expandable lengthwise, but could also be adjusted in width.
“With the Legend Series, we were again in position to develop something new and innovative for the industry,” said Chuck Miller, Aztec’s President of 26 years. “We allowed our customers to transform a 60-by-100-foot tent into an 80-by-100-foot tent without any additional cost. That was huge.”
Aztec continued its steady growth in 2004 when it purchased substantial assets from the defunct Los Angeles-based Academy Tents & Canvas. The acquisition incorporated exclusive rights to Academy’s products lines and manufacturing equipment. To accommodate the significant growth, Aztec acquired an additional office and production facility in Torrance and hired over 80 former Academy employees.
In late 2005, Aztec Tents & Events sold its rental division and changed its name to Aztec Tents to more efficiently serve the company’s manufacturing and creative capabilities.
“Aztec Tents & Events was a full-service tent and rental company that was successfully operated for four decades,” said Kouzmanoff, who has been with the company since 1997. “We realized that by focusing on manufacturing and our client relationships, we could target efforts more intently on our original goal: the creation of high-end, one-of-akind structures.”
Aztec Tents has been honored with International Achievement Awards (IAA) for outstanding specialty fabric projects. Spanning more than half a century, the International Achievement Award is an annual world-class competition that recognizes companies for innovations in design and/or technology in the specialty fabrics industry.
Aztec Tents received the Award of Excellence in the commercial tent rental category, and an Outstanding Achievement Award in tent manufacturing.
